for everyone |
since i intend to finish my looong-delayed doctoral
degree by next year, i intend to use this as title of my thesis. specifically,
i want to try measuring the happiness index of married males in the country, or
at least, metro cebu, by juxtaposing it with the sales of ogie alcasid's cd
containing this song. i understand this was a phenomenal hit.
i forgot the first stanza of this song but the
refrain goes like this: bakit ngayon ka lang dumating sa buhay ko? pilit
binubuksan ang sarado ko nang puso?
based on the sales of ogie's cd, there must be many
married men out there who want to say this to a single woman somewhere - or
married women singing it to single men. i am sure, though, that the former
would win hands-down. this song of frustration - yes, that's what it is - is
reflective of the psychological and emotional status of our married male
population. this is how i see its
commercial megasuccess. indeed, what is the percentage of married men singing
this song in their cars and humming it while in bed with their wives? this should be very interesting!!!!!
the next line goes: ikaw ba ang nararapat sa akin?
well, obviously, they doubt the correctness of
their spouse choices! after a kid or two (maybe more), they suddenly ask
themselves if this new girl they met is the one they should have married, not
the women sleeping in the houses which they are amortizing TOGETHER. they are thinking that the women who put their
lives on the line to produce their descendants may, after all, not have been
worth it!
and finally, the song cries: siya ba ay dapat ko
nang limutin?
what can i say? truly cowards, men even pass the
question to the new women they want to love (and undress). shouldn't the question be resolved by a man
with or without the new woman? gosh, if you do not like the mother of your kids
anymore, then the new woman has nothing to do with it! be a real man, for goodness' sake, and decide
for yourself! do not let the new woman analyze and decide for you! if you wanna
forget the woman you married, by all means, do so. No one is stopping you; rest
assured this is not unconstitutional.
The married man who does not want his wife anymore can do any of these
things: throw her out, leave her, ask
her to refund all your expenses since you got married, divide your kids - bahala ka sa buhay mo what
you will do about it.
and i write this because the nth married man asked me this week: arlette, bakit ngayon ka lang?
please! sawang-sawa na ako sa question na ito!!!!!
